Is it really Education?

Education is an essential tool to everyone. School is not the only place for education. Right now that we are experiencing a global dilemma, it also affects our education. Because of this, our way of education is being complicated and problematic. The Department of Education and schools have come up with news ways of learning and suggested to have modular and online class as a temporary alternative or replacement for the traditional face-to-face class but many still can't accept and have complains about this so called "new normal". Is this new normal really acceptable and effective?

It is not education unless you learn something. Education is not all about being the top of your class nor getting perfect scores or grades in each test, it is about learning new things and improving one’s self. With the appearance of this deadly COVID-19, many are affected including schools, that’s why they’ve come up with different learning modalities. Online class and modular class is now the so called new normal. Other countries have fully recovered and are doing face-to-face class already while our country is still stuck in this new normal.

This new normal way of learning is placing a heavy burden on both the students, parents and educators. Students are on their limit already doing lots of activities and tasks in a week, to the point that they prioritized answering the modules more than their health. Instead of reading and learning, they mostly focuses on answering. Because of the pressure and the deadlines, they pushed their selves to their limits to fill in the modules with learning little to nothing.

In lower grade levels, the parents answers the modules instead of their children or the students. It burdens the parents because they also have works to do and their children are not learning anything at all. Teachers are also having a hard time because of the tasks and activities they need to make, and they also have their family that they need to take care of. There are also many uneducated students that acts so high and mighty to the point that they keep on disrespecting DepEd and educators without knowing that teachers are also suffering from this new normal way of teaching. In this new normal, not just the students but also the teachers and elders are suffering.

Learning is not just about answering activities and modules. What people needs is education that can teach them things and not just for the sake of scores. Yes, education is very important to us but so does our health. What we need is education and not sufferings and burdens. Teachers, students and parents needs to work together instead of arguing against each other. Let’s get through with this new normal and learn true education. After all, education serves as the gateway to success.

  3. I agree that there's a heavy burden to students, parents and teachers. Every child have their own way to learn. There are those who learn more on visuals than reading thus it's so much harder. There are those parents who can't explain the lesson well to their child because they simply didn't know or they know a little about the lesson. There's so much reason.

  7. I agree that learning should be about acquiring new knowledge. During this Covid pandemic, I have also observed that education is merely circulating on attaining high scored without supervising if the student is really learning. As a student, I can surely relate to the struggles you have mentioned. The fun in learning has been removed by the circumstances brought by the pandemic. I hope this pandemic ends soon so we can again attain quality education with minimal burdens.
