Filipinos Unbending Resilience

In the Southeast Asia within the western Pacific Ocean, there is a country called Philippines. It is an archipelago consisting of 7,100 islands. This country have experienced a lot of strong disasters, both anthropogenic and natural, that leads to the downfall of the country’s economy. During disasters, many lives are taken. But now what we’re facing is a global pandemic that took the lives of many innocent people. How does Filipinos deal with this dangerous pandemic?

This time what we’re fighting is neither a typhoon nor an earthquake, but an invisible and deadly virus. This virus is all over the whole world already and damaged it severely. Until now no vaccine is created and many people are suffering and living in fear. Our resilience is being tested by this pandemic and we’re about to fail. Our once civilized economy is falling down. Yet people are still fighting among each other instead of working together, the government that is supposed to unite and protect the people are ignoring their responsibilities. Many countries have recovered from the pandemic while we are still on the frontlines. Will it really be the doom of us Filipinos?

Philippines has gone through a lot, bloodshed wars, terrorism and conquerors. We were conquered and invaded by the Spanish for 333 years but we were able to drive them off yet a pandemic came and break us. We were able to survive countless wars and calamities. Instead of focusing on getting rid of this pandemic, we are having a fight among the stubborn citizens and the incompetent government that complicates the problem and leads to accomplishing nothing at all. If this continues, then it will lead to the downfall of the Philippines and Filipinos. Is this really all we’ve got?

We have endured lot of tough times and dangerous situations, don’t let this pandemic be a reason for the ruin and downfall of our beloved country. Our ancestors would be ashamed of us if they can see our current situation. Don’t let a pandemic destroy us, together lets work together and overcome our currently most challenging time. Puso, Laban Pilipinas!
